Tanya Story is a self taught mulitdisciplinary artist and California native born in Los Angeles. At a young age Tanya was comfortable being alone in nature and spent abundant time exploring the deserts of California and Arizona. This engagement inspired her to see sculptures in nature through observing organic shapes and forms. This fantasy world she entered into within the natural world also inspired her to use unconventional materials such as bones, seed pods, latex, hair and fur. This connection with nature allows her to translate her ideas and feelings into sculptures.

Tanya began showing her work in 1996 in San Diego, California, and continues today in Santa Fe, New mexico.

Story has a variety of artistic skills such as, Mold Making, 3D design, Welding, Forging, Wood working, Painting, Drawing and Metal Smithing.

Story is currently working on several of bodies of work.

“Ship Wrecked” is a series she started in 2013 exploring the depths and challenges of personal experience, and the process of transforming darkness into light through the cleansing of her heart.

Story uses jaw bones of cows, horses, elk and deer creating these small ships, including other materials of latex, paper, plaster, ashes, hair, copper and steel.

“Soul Skins” is a on-going series she started in 2000, and is an exploration into women’s stories and body image. Story casts the participant then creates a wearable sculpture using latex, foam, fabric as well as other materials.
Each “Soul Skin” is made in collaboration with the participant and their stories are translated into a wearable suit.

Story leads “Soul Skin” art and personal story workshops where she currently resides in Santa Fe, New mexico.
